Why we exist
Boards fail quietly, long before they fail publicly.
InsidEntity Insights is the editorial arm of a simple idea: the people who lose the most when a company fails, shareholders, employees, suppliers, customers, whole communities, are usually the last to see it coming. We think that’s backwards.
249 countries tracked 145 exchanges covered 4 governance pillars
A CEO’s biography is easy to find. Whether their board can say no to them is not.
Every institutional collapse we’ve studied shares a quieter story underneath the headline: a board that couldn’t push back, an auditor too close to the client, a shareholder base too diluted to matter. None of that shows up in a press release. It shows up in board composition, in who audits whom, in who’s spread across nine other companies and paying attention to none of them.
That gap between what companies disclose and what actually determines whether they survive is what we cover.
Four questions, asked of every entity we cover
- Is the board independent, or just independently named?
- Do the non-executive directors have the bandwidth and expertise to do the job, or are they spread across a dozen boardrooms?
- Is the auditor a check on management, or a vendor that’s stopped asking hard questions?
- Do shareholders carry real influence, or just the appearance of a vote?
We track these signals over time, not as a single snapshot, because a board that was independent three years ago and isn’t now is a more useful story than either fact alone. And we set entities side by side, because a governance score means little until you can compare it to the next company down the list.
Who reads InsidEntity Insights
Short answer: anyone with something at stake. Investors and analysts use it to sense-check a position before they take one. Financial institutions and authorities use it as an early-warning layer that sits above the filings. Auditors and directors use it to see how they’re being read from the outside. Employees, suppliers, and customers use it for the plainest reason of all, to find out if the company they depend on is as stable as it looks. And communities use it because when large entities fail, they absorb the fallout no annual report accounts for.
If you’ve ever had to guess whether an institution deserved your trust, you’re who this is for.
What you get, without an account
Everything on InsidEntity Insights, the articles, the signal explainers, the governance framework, is free to read, no login required. Full entity and director-level data, directorship counts across markets, board tenure history, cross-holding and conflict mapping, industry and jurisdiction search, lives on the InsidEntity platform itself, at no cost with limited depth and by subscription for the full picture. One flag worth spotting on sight: a director sitting on more than five active boards is a director who cannot be paying full attention to any of them.
